Friday Ramblings with Robert
Wrapping It Up
Well it is about time to head to the polls in a few days as the primary election season is nearing its completion. The Republican Primary battles have been relatively tame with the obvious exception being the Lt. Governor’s race between Billy Hewes and Tate Reeves. There will be 4 good races to watch as the other statewide posts are either unopposed or will be uneventful as should be the case in the Secretary of State race between incumbent Delbert Hosemann and challenger Ricky Dombrowski.
Heading To The Polls
Governor – It is clear to me that this race has two clear front-runners in Phil Bryant and Dave Dennis. Hudson Holliday and Ron Williams are going to attract a fair amount of votes in my opinion as both have closed out the primary race fairly strong and I can see people being attracted to them. The big thing to look at here is to see if Williams and Holliday can draw enough support to possibly force a runoff between Dennis and Bryant, who will be the two men that get the most votes in this race. Dennis has done a good job of establishing himself as the political outsider to Phil Bryant’s career politician role, which Bryant has embraced and used as a positive throughout his campaign. I feel either way this thing shakes out you get a good candidate for November between Bryant or Dennis.
Lt. Governor - It is Tate or Billy in this one and both have spared no punches in this race and that is not all that surprising when you consider how powerful of a job these two are running for and the fact that the winner faces no Democratic challenger in November so it gives it a general election type significance. Both are very capable candidates and will be successful in the job.
Treasurer – This is probably the biggest toss-up race out there and most likely to end up in a runoff. I really do not think either Lucien Smith, Lynn Fitch or Lee Yancey will get a simple majority to avoid a runoff. Neither of the candidates had much name recognition coming in to this race so the playing field was pretty even and this will come down to who did the best job working the state to pull down votes.
Ag. Commissioner - Another race that could come down to the wire. I think Cindy and Max probably have the best chance to win this primary even though Dannie Reed may be the most qualified of all of them. Max has been here before a few times and has even won the primary before , but Cindy has put together a very good campaign and could come out on top. All 3 are very capable for this job so it is a win win situation.
Looking Ahead
After the dust settles on Tuesday we will have a much better idea of what lies ahead in the run up to the November General Elections. If there is a run off for any of the races it would be held 3 weeks later on the August 23rd. I think Republicans have put some really strong candidates out there and it will be interesting to see how things turn out Tuesday night not just for these statewide races, but all the legislative races as well.
I am thinking about the State House of Representatives elections. When the Democrat Party is sending out false flyers about such good Representatives like Becky Currie, you know they are desperate. Some four different flyers came out against her that state she is trying to get the Brookhaven School for the Arts out of that community. That is blatantly FALSE, she has fought hard to keep it in South Mississippi.
Estimated at $20,000 for the four mail outs, this reader believes that the Democrat Party has lots of money to spread their lies.
In district 64, the challenger to Bill Denny is trying to get the public to vote for him WITHOUT admitting he is a DEMOCRAT! He’s gotten lots of money (almost $80,000) from trial lawyers from all over the country (ten states).
From my blog on the Ms. Tea Party website I wrote:
I had a conversation yesterday (October 27) with d carson (at his ‘meet and greet’ at Broadstreet Baking Company), opponent to Bill Denny running for State Representative in District 64. To show how dishonest a candidate will be to get elected, carson WILL NOT put his party affiliation on his campaign signs. So I asked him, “Why won’t you put Democrat on your signs?” He said because in that largely Republican district, “I can’t get elected as a Dem. Why won’t John Dennery put Republican on his signs?” As confusing as that may seem, John Dennery is NOT running against carson. Carson did NOT acknowledge that John Dennery’s OPPONENT is not naming his DEMOCRAT AFFILIATION either in the District 1 HINDS COUNTY SUPERVISOR RACE, just to keep it straight for anyone who may be confused by carson’s gibberish. So the conversation went on to say that he didn’t like it that Bill Denny voted against a bill that would allow a confession of a minor who has committed murder to be read in court. Some sad story about his best friend’s brother not getting justice. Did carson call Denny and question him about his vote? No. Did carson provide the bill number and year that vote took place to me? NO! Did he write about it in the Clarion-Liar? I don’t think so. So I called Bill Denny to ask him about such a case. Bill asked me what the bill was, what year that happened, he couldn’t remember it. And Denny didn’t recall such a bill either. What is really important to know is the CARSON IS A TRIAL LAWYER BEING FUNDED BY OUT OF STATE MONEY RAISED BY TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATIONS OUTSIDE OF MISSISSIPPI. So I question whether carson is really interested in justice or is he looking for something to launch a campaign question that has not been established? Why would money from Atlanta, Louisiana and other trial lawyer groups care about a STATE REPRESENTATIVE SEAT IN NORTHEAST JACKSON? Other than the fact that TRIAL LAWYERS IN MISSISSIPPI HAVE STATED THEY WANT TO UNDO THE TORT REFORM LAWS PASSED IN MISSISSIPPI IN 2004. (See below for details.)
Now one other thing carson would not tell me is what he would do to fix education. In one of his blog posts he complains that Bill Denny voted against ‘fully funding’ education. He did not give any information about which bill that was, but he ALSO left out the fact that another more likable education bill (to Denny) was voted on by Bill. So, does carson believe that Bill Denny is against education? Talk to Bill Denny about this, you will find Bill willing to explain his votes.
Since then I have gone to the Secretary of State’s website to find out about his funding. So it looks as if there is widespread knowledge that the Tort Reform Mississippi has affected us, is being noticed by a large number of trial lawyers all over the country. Among the places he has received this money is from Atlanta, Georgia, Madisonville, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia. Gee, aren’t you glad to know so many people know about Mississippi? Of course there are plenty of trial lawyers living in Mississippi who are also contributing to the carson cause.
He went on to say that as a Democrat, he will be able to “reach across the aisle”. I am not comfortable with that term. With “reach-across-the -aisle-RINO-John McCain” we got the “Democrat-Socialist-Communist-Barack-Obama”. So if we have the “Democrat” (unproclaimed) dorsey carson in the House of Representatives for our rep, will we get another “Socialist-Communist-type-Billy-McCoy” type Speaker?
HAVE YOU ever heard of him before he started putting his yard signs out BEFORE the primaries? He had no opponent in the primary, but he had his name out there –NO PARTY AFFILIATION available on the signs, so SPECIFICALLY what has he done?
Oh, and he intends to get rid of SLRP, but that is what the PERS committee is working on right now. He also will be giving his pay from the Legislature to local churches and charities. (For the tax deduction, I suppose.) But that also means he makes so much money from his lawyering that he doesn’t need the pittance from legislative work.
The C-Liar intimates that Denny has large sums of money left over to us in campaigning, but it does not state that Carson has actually SPENT much more money than Bill Denny. The paper does not say that carson has received almost $80,000 from various sources, about half from TRIAL LAWYERS inside and OUTSIDE THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. The contributions number 36 coming from Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, Georgia, Colorado, Arkansas, and North Carolina. So realize that Carson is getting lots of money from Trial Lawyers all over the country to gain a small seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives. With that wide a field to capture such a small place in the political world, what tricks will Carson pull out of the hat to “reach across the aisle”? And what Democrat has EVER REACHED ACROSS THE AISLE TO SUPPORT CONSERVATIVE VALUES? I have never seen one and by the socialist/communist history of the Democrat Party, do you really think anyone who subscribes to that party will start this coming January? I do not!
