Heritage Action Grades Congress

Heritage Action for America, a conservative advocacy group which is the sister organization for the Heritage Foundation, has recently graded members of Congress. Here is what they say about the ratings:

“With each vote cast in Congress, freedom either advances or recedes. Heritage Action’s new legislative scorecard allows Americans to see whether their Members of Congress are fighting for freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society. The scorecard is comprehensive, covering the full spectrum of conservatism, and includes legislative action on issues both large and small.

Heritage Action’s legislative scorecard isn’t graded on a curve – it is tough and we don’t apologize. After all, we are conservatives, not tenured university professors.”

As for Mississippi’s delegation, here are the grades (best to worst):

1. Sen. Thad Cochran- 73 percent
1. Sen. Roger Wicker- 73 percent
3. Rep. Alan Nunnelee- 68 percent
4. Rep. Steven Palazzo- 60 percent
5. Rep. Gregg Harper- 57 percent
6. Rep. Bennie Thompson- 13 percent

The group makes no qualms about the tough grading system. No one scored a 100. Here is the top 10 overall:

1. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)- 99 percent
2. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)- 98 percent
3. Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC)- 97 percent
4. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT)- 96 percent
5. Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ)- 96 percent
6. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)- 96 percent
7. Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ)- 95 percent
8. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC)- 95 percent
9. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN)- 94 percent
10. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC)- 94 percent
