Personhood Opponents Form Organization
On August 23, opponents of the Personhood Amendment filed a new organization with the Secretary of State’s office, as noted in the latest press release from Yes on 26, an organization backing the initiative.
Opponents chose the innocent sounding “Mississippians for Healthy Families” as their name knowing full well what kind of weight the names ACLU and Planned Parenthood carry in the state.
The group, whose address is listed as 513 North State Street in Jackson, lists ACLU Executive Director Nsombi Lambright as its director. Serving as treasurer is Kay Scott, who is CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeast, based in Atlanta. A third officer listed is Barry Chase, president of Memphis Regional Planned Parenthood. (Do a Google search of their names, you’ll find some interesting stories like this one where Chase calls for sex ed for kindergartners).
You can see their filing here:
Supporters said this about what voters should expect to see over the next two months, and attempted to clarify some of the statements we have been hearing about the initiative:
“With this front organization now in place, Mississippians must prepare for the deceit that is soon to follow, mostly through well-crafted, ‘family-values sounding’ television advertisements that claim the ‘sky is falling.’ The upcoming ads’ scare tactics will falsely claim that the Personhood Amendment will result in the prosecution of women who suffer miscarriages, the outlawing of contraceptives, the end of IVF, and risks to women’s health, none of which is true. The extent to which the ACLU and Planned Parenthood will lie is understandable because of the money at stake. Abortion is big business, and its profiteers cannot afford to have Mississippi be the first state in the nation to grant equal rights to the unborn. If Mississippi leads, more than a dozen states are sure to follow. Since Planned Parenthood receives nearly $360 million of federal tax dollars each year, the organization will use its profits from its big city abortion mills to fund a robust campaign against the Mississippi Personhood Amendment.”
I can see why abortion supporters are mounting a serious campaign against the initiative in Mississippi, since this is the first state it’s likely to pass. Supporters believe this will start a chain that could lead to other states. But when all is said and done, in a state where even leading Democrats (DuPree, McCoy) support the initiative, it’s an exercise in futility, and to put it bluntly, a waste of money.
Don’t see a website for the group yet, but you can check out their Facebook page here.

Maybe the sweetie-pie @NoOnMS26 on Twitter is part of this. *snort* He swore to me he lives in Mississippi, but it’s pretty clear that’s a lie. I received tweets containing the very same language you warn about here. That’s how all these pro-aborts work.
Why are the “YESON26″ people not telling the ENTIRE TRUTH about what is in this amendment? It will make miscarriages criminal acts to be investigated and prosecuted. It will limit all forms of birth control other than condoms. Couple c an’t have a kid naturally? Want IVF? TOO BAD!! This amendment gets rid of that as well. SO what is the REAL purpose of this? And don’t give me that bible thumping crap! When you obey everything in the Bible, including selling your daughter into slavery or having multiple spouses, THEN you can flap your gums. Until then, keep your trap shut and your imaginary friends to yourselves and out of our gov’t!
Dona, you must work for Planned Parenthood spreading those lies. It is fun seeing how stupid people think scare tactics are going to rule the day. It DOES NOT make miscarriages a criminal act. But hey, you’re selling crazy so I doubt facts work well for you. It DOES NOT ban birth control. Just another lie being told by those that hope we are too stupid to do the research. It does ban the “morning after” pill but that is an abortion pill anyway since the deed has been done. So if all you can do is lie, then you need to “keep your trap shut.” So break out your Planned Parenthood/ACLU playbook and come up with a few more lies, Dona. We need more laughs.
That Facebook page is a good read if you want to see where the kooks in Mississippi hang out- of course half of them aren’t from here or don’t live here. Glad to see San Francisco and NYC are so concerned. Wonder why none of them are crying about DuPree supporting the initiative?
The reason abortion supporters are scared is because they are losing. They are losing hearts and minds, they are losing legislative battles throughout the country, etc. Abortion rates have been going down for 20 years and this is their business. The abortion industry is scared of losing their business the same way paper companies or any other industry are.
Wow, Dona, you are an extremely intolerant person. Keep your trap shut? Really? Do the words, “Freedom of speech,” mean anything to you, or didn’t they cover that in the public school you attended? Miscarriages weren’t criminal acts before Roe v Wade and they won’t be after Amendment 26 passes in Mississippi. The REAL purpose of this is equal protection for ALL human life, Dona. Are you not for the equal protection of all human life?

You think women will not be prosecuted for miscarriages? They already are and 26 will increase it.

Dupree supporting the disastrous bill is a shame.
Just to point out your own use of misleading rhetoric – you are Anti-Choice, not Pro-Life (and certainly don’t support equal protection for all human life) as anyone Pro-Life would not support the Death Penalty or those without insurance being left to die or children, once born, left to starve because mommy and daddy can’t afford food.
Nobody is Pro-Abortion. I am Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, I am for the Constitution of the United States of America and for Small Government – all of which 26 violates.
Voting yes on 26 is inviting big brother to poke around in your bedroom, your OBGYN’s office, your mothers and your daughters.
We have called out Dupree for supporting i26. In fact, I am awaiting a call back from him personally today.
I was abducted, raped and shot twice as I escaped in Jackson, MS 20 years ago by two young men on a car-jacking spree. Why should the gov’t be allowed to FORCE me to bear a child I do not want? We’re talking BIG GOVERNMENT at its worse–entitlements spiralling out of control, law suits left and right. The founder of Peronshood USA has stated outright that he wants the birth control pill outlawed. When Mississippians were polled this week by the MS Business Journal whether they would vote yes or no with this fact in mind, 96% said they would VOTE NO.
I’m sure 96% said they’d vote no. Right. And I’ll bet you’re not even from Mississippi. I lived in Jackson around 20 years ago and that story doesn’t sound familiar at all. You’d think the story you’ve told would have made the news. Let me guess, you didn’t report it?
Good grief, the kooks have come over here. I wish them luck in getting 20% of the state to support their cause.
And it looks like one of them even wants to run for governor. In fact, he says he is on his website. I guess like all the lies that he has written up about the initiative, he must feel if you write it on the Internet it must be true. But to be fair, I do wish you were on the ballot Mr. Kearan- might take some of that JFP vote from DuPree.
@ Bobby Kearan: Those are the best arguments you can come up with? The first link tells of a cocaine user. The second one doesn’t list one reason why preborn human beings should be murdered.
And I am not anti-choice. Women have the choice to not become pregnant. They know how it happens. But when they do, they have the choices to keep the baby or adopt the baby. There are no unwanted babies. I am not anti-choice, I’m anti-baby-murder.
I will agree with you on one thing and I apologize for misstating my position. (Dang, I sound like a politician). You’re right, I’m not for the equal protection of all human life. I’m for the equal protection of all INNOCENT human life. Persons GUILTY of capital crimes should receive capital punishment.
So, Bobby, are you for or against the equal protection of all innocent human life?
Scott you are right. The choice is to get pregnant or not.
Ron, I got up early this morning and checked emails etc before heading out. I checked in on MIM as I do every few days. When I checked MIM this morning I saw my post to marmie from last night and I saw the post from “not a fish fan” also posted last night around 2:00 am or so. Then while I’m viewing MIM there pops up 3 posts from you that are time-stamped around 1130 or so last night. So a post from “not a fish fan” posted around 2:00 am last night appeared on MIM several hours BEFORE your posts that appear to have been sent around 11:30 last night. Has me wondering why your posts that are time-stamped last night are just now appearing on MIM this morn? You see I am a detail person with a real curiosity. Just wondering why?
Hey Rat,evidently, my posts arte edited by the site. Free speech is not really welcome here.
Got my letter from Phil today asking for more money. He uses all the buzz words,, so let’s look at the facts.
1. He says we need conservative leadership. What’s conservative about crony capitalism and using taxpayer money to fund no-bids for campaign contributors? ( doesn’t hold up )
2. Whats’ conservative about increasing bond debt to get around the public’s demand for a balanced budget. ( doesn’t hold up )
3.Says we need to protect ourselves from the liberals in washington. ( this election is about Jacxkson MS period) nice scare tactic, I’m sure it works on the elderly.
4.Phil says we need to show everyone that MS is a rock solid conservative state with lower ttaxes, less regulation and freedom from Govt. intrusion. I pay more in taxes and fees than we ever did, prior to Phil. Nuisance agency
regulation is at an all time high since Phil.
My favorite is the one about less Govt. intrusion. It was Phil Bryant’s direct intrusion into a private sector project on behalf of one of his contributors, that led me to run for Governor.
So MIM has you in “time out”? That’s what happens when you post on a respectable blog site in an abusive, angry and factless barage of tantrums. It’s not that free speech isn’t welcome here. Maybe MIM just doesn’t allow abusive insulting. Maybe they don’t care for your attacks on people that disagree with you by calling them “morons”, “idiots”, etc. Maybe they are beginning to see the real Ron Williams that we know so well down here. Yes, when you can’t be respectful and are downright angry and insulting you go to “time out”.
I was attacked recently for not supporting the republican ticket. Towana and I have given tens of thousands of dollars to te party and specific candidates over the last few years. We are true republican conservatives. We didn’t abandon the party. The party has abandoned conservative principals.
There are several individual Republican candidates who we will send money to. They have kept their word.
Mr. Fix-it Williams is just bitter he got thumped. And we need strong leadership in Jackson to protect us from Washington, but I guess that’s something you can’t understand.
Mr. Fix-it has endorsed liberal Johnny Dupree who has done more damage to small businesses in Hattiesburg than anyone. He has also endorsed Jim Hood, who has refused to do the will of the people of Mississippi and sue the federal government on ObamaCare. So Ron claims to be a conservative but backs liberals.
Ron, it is clear your issues with Phil Bryant are personal and not about what’s best for Mississippi. If it was there’s no way you’d look at Dupree and think he’d be a better governor. Its time you grow up and move on.
