Little Coverage of DWS Appearance

October 21, 2011

As Debbie Wasserman Schultz campaigned for Johnny DuPree in Jackson yesterday, it looks like the news coverage was rather light. The Clarion-Ledger opted to use this Associated Press article which I am sure you will find in other papers throughout the state, but that appears to be it as far as print is concerned. I haven’t seen anything from the Jackson Free Press yet, and this is a story that you’d think would certainly interest them and their readers. Here is local coverage from WLBT and WAPT.

Contrast that with pretty detailed coverage from the Atlanta Journal Constitution when she was in Georgia the day before helping Democrats open their new headquarters. (Not exactly sure what they need it for though but that’s beside the point).

The lack of coverage is somewhat surprising to me. Even though she has little name recognition, she is the chair of the Democratic Party and the event was in Jackson so it wasn’t exactly like any travel was required. I understand that the traditional media outlets can’t cover politics in great detail, but even this surprised me. Competitive or not, that shouldn’t lead to less coverage when it’s the governor’s race.

The RNC offered this statement following her appearance: “The contrast between Phil Bryant and Johnny DuPree couldn’t be clearer than it is today. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s top priority is helping elect individuals who support the Democrats’ national agenda. The last thing Mississippians want is a Governor who embraces the national Democrats’ failed policies of runaway government spending, jobs-killing tax increases, gun control and Obamacare.”

And the MSGOP noted that Wasserman Schultz made this comment: “…We won’t just win the Governor’s mansion next month, we will build the road to the White House right through Mississippi back to Washington D.C. and send President Obama to a second term. On to victory on November 8th and November 6th of next year.”

    Three points:

    1) Political coverage from the media in MS is awful. Little to none is about what you’d expect.

    2) I’d say not covering her appearance and making a bigger deal about it is a good thing for DuPree.

    3) Is this the most boring election ever?

This is the most boring statewide general election I can recall.

Cory Wilson hit the nail on the head in his column in the Madison County Journal this week when he said that this election isn’t as exciting because it’s already over. Mayor Dupree has no chance whatsoever of defeating Phil Bryant. The DNC or Democratic Governor’s Association could put a million dollars – or ten million – and not win. There are just too many people who don’t want to see a liberal governor. The excitement in this election will be how the legislative races turn out, what happens on the initiatives, and what could possibly happen in the AG’s race if the Republican turnout is significant. Phil could have started measuring for drapes a year ago…

Inside the echo chambers of Mississippi’s left stream media newsrooms there is a palpable sense of fear regarding control of our House. Liberal editors have no intention to fan the flames before election day and are thankful it was Wasserman Schultz who came to visit instead of Nancy Pelosi.

The answer of course as to why the press coverage was almost non existant is right in front of our noses . it was A Demoncrud i mean Democrat function where one of obamas zombie mouthpieces was present to spew more lying trash.end of story.
We have heard enough lies from patty o’nunnelee ,sure don’t need to hear more from these liberal goofs.

I was at this event. Second row, great seat. The congresswoman did not make that statement.

Interesting comments. The issue will be if people once again vote against their best interest just to maintain ideology?? It’s sad when the State uses stimulus funds designed to benefits the citizens, yet spends it instead to balance the balance or worse, think of all the unemployed folk, yet the government sent the money back to DC. Why???? Because the ideology is not about MS, but backing the party that feels it must sink the ship…..just to get the captain!!! In the meantime, MS folk are left suffering.
Was it the liberal philosophy that has allowed Hattiesburg to have a harmonious climate? Just because a person is defined as liberal is not the question – it should be…..will they be representative of the people versus hardcore partisanship, which translates into only one group being served.

What are you thinking?
