Official Primary Ballot Is Released

December 16, 2011

The Secretary of State’s office released a list of candidates who have qualified for the presidential primary ballot in Mississippi for 2012. The primary will take place on March 13. Mississippi’s date is about middle of the pack in terms of timing, and falls one week after Super Tuesday where 11 states will hold primaries. Here is a tentative schedule of 2012 primary and caucus dates.

The one and only Democrat on the ballot is Barack Obama, who obviously isn’t facing a serious Democratic challenge to his re-nomination. On the Republican side, these candidates will appear: Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, John Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

As it appears right now, Romney is simply not popular in Mississippi and Gingrich looks to be the frontrunner. Nationally, the former Speaker is starting to slip some, but considering the lack of interest in Romney from Magnolia State voters, he is still certainly in good position. Of course, two months from Iowa to Mississippi is a long time. Four years ago, the Republican primary had already been decided while the Democratic battle was still going on. We shall see what happens this time.

The other story is what do Democratic voters do? They don’t have a presidential race, but there will be a Congressional primary in the Second District where, likely, the bulk of the primary voters will come from. Bennie Thompson and Heather McTeer certainly have an interest in these voters sticking with the Democratic primary.

If we accept Newt we’re throwing in the towel on ‘moral turpitude’ for both his habit of leaving wives and epitomizing the ‘revolving door’ by profiting to ridiculous excessiveness, from his ‘celebrity’ status as former speaker.
Sadly Newt is yet another GOP’er that has chosen to be in the game for ‘what’s in it for him’ and not for the public good.
It’s a shame there is a better selection.

It’s also a shame that there are some who cannot stand and speak For their candidate instead of denigrating others.

Newt Gingrich is a historian, he loves this country and understands our Constitution, our system of government and the sacrifices made by patriots to create it, and the importance of maintaining it. He knows how government works and how it should work. He is intelligent, educated, and has common sense. Newt carries some baggage but the deeper we get into the campaign and the more we see and hear from the candidates, I Realize that Newt’s baggage is not nearly as heavy as I thought. He has gone to the church with his personal baggage, he has admitted to mistakes. He has been in the public eye for 35 years and has made public controversial decisions, he has cast over 7200 votes, made over 15,000 speeches, written 24 books. He has matured over these years. His original Contract with America led to CONSERVATIVE Republicans taking the US House. As Speaker they had 4 consecutive balanced budgets, welfare reform, strengthened our national defense and intelligence. The CBO had forecast a deficet in ten years of 2.5 trillion when he was elected speaker and 4 years later it was for a surplus of 2.5 for a turnaround of 5 Trillion $. They cut taxes and unemployment dropped to 4.2%. President Clinton talks of his administration having balanced budgets, surplus, and welfare reform, that’s true, but it was thrust upon him by Newt and the Republican Congress. Republicans should be apoligizing to Newt for squandering what he brought to the country instead of attacking him. I believe this can be Newt’s time, America is in trouble and we need an advocate, I believe that advocate is Newt Gingrich. I intend to vote for and support the Republican nominee, but Cindy and I hope and pray that it is Newt.

We need to end the drug war, stop spending on endless foreign wars, and end the fed. Otherwise, our country is pretty much screwed. I hope some of you at least check out Dr. Ron Paul’s platform, even if you don’t vote for him in the end. Before anyone says anything about his racism, he’s not racist. Even several leaders in the NAACP have vouched for him on that front. He didn’t write those news letters. Ron Paul is the most Christian acting man running, but he won’t force those beliefs on non-Christians…instead he will just live it by example. Our country is becoming the same as former communist East Germany, with bills like the new NDAA bill, the SOPA bill, and the Patriot act. Ron Paul will do everything in his power to stop these bills or reverse them if they’re passed. If they are passed, then the sacrifices that the soldiers made in the past protecting our freedoms will be nullified. Please don’t give into fear.
