Bill - Purity in Politics. hmm

I know it may be considered by some as "treason" to disagree with Governor Barbour, but ...its not

What Haley actually said:

“Remember purity in politics, purity is the enemy of victory,” Barbour said. “We can’t start out with the idea out as the Faith & Freedom Coalition that our candidate’s got to agree with me on every single thing. We cannot expect our candidate to be pure. … Conservatives, religious people, small government people, we are not going to have purity. We’re not going to have a perfect candidate,”

Why did he single out these particular groups of people and why in the grand scheme of things should it be these three groups that should give up what they want? I thought these three groups were the party - guess I was wrong.

Why did he not say this to Republicans in the State that believe in big government?

Why did he not say this to Republicans that believe getting Federal Grants and Loans so Mississippi Politicians don't have to live within the means that Mississippi Citizens can afford?

Why did he not say this to Republicans in the state who believe that abortion is OK (or won't stand up against it)?

Why did he say this at a FAITH and FREEDOM gathering when the spirit of "just accept second best" that this implies, is diametrically opposed to FAITH and FREEDOM?

How does this belief inspire excellency?

How does this inspire unity in the party?

After this he noted Jesus as being the only perfect person that walked the face of the earth. Aren't we suppose to at least try to be like Jesus - Is that not what the Christian FAITH is all about?

Does this mean Haley does not believe that Jesus can actually win an election? Is it his faith that is slipping and if so why is he speaking at a convention on Faith?

Lets see - Big Government and Freedom - compatible? How does that work?

Are we supposed to give up our moral standards so we could win? I could not find where Jesus taught this. I thought when you held to your moral standards in the Christian Faith that was a win. Everything I know of the Christian Faith says that when you don't hold to your moral standards, you loose.

Jesus said "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God" then "all these things shall be added unto you". He said "Be ye perfect?" Yea I guess maybe Jesus was not thinking clearly when he said a little leaven leavens the whole lump - he should've known better - after all he created the leaven and the lump.

I think Jesus would say that Politics is the enemy of Purity. He certainly took the Pharisees and Sanhedrin to task over it.

The politicians in the government and church that opposed Jesus wanted the same thing. They wanted Jesus to go away and just let them run things. They eventually killed Jesus to shut him up so they could run things.

Maybe it was this same lack of Purity in Government and Religious circles that lifted God's Hand of Protection from the Jews and allowed the Romans to come in a conquer them in the first place and eventually scatter them to the winds.

Haley also said in the same speech:

“Winning is about unity. Winning is about us sticking together to achieve the main thing.”

Is this what we are about? Winning? Is he saying that its OK to do some things wrong just so we could win. How is winning at any cost a Christian Principle?

How is it unifying to tell the majority of the party to shut up and let the minority run things?

What is the “main thing” we are seeking? Is it freedom or money or something else? Who is our God – is it the Economy or the God who controls the economy? Is it Mammon or Christ? Gee I always thought it was "Love God, Love People".

Unemployment in Mississippi was about 6+% when Governor Barbour came into office- it is now at about 10+%.

According to the USDA Mississippi’s per capita income has not changed since 2008, and our poverty rate went up 2.5%. Guess that’s not too bad unless you’re one of the ones in that 2.5%.

According to Bloomberg Business article published December 5, 2011… http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9REG8IG0.htm:

“Mississippi's unemployment rate has drifted slowly upward during 2011, hovering at 10.6 percent in October. That tied with Michigan for the third highest nationwide, behind No. 1 Nevada and No. 2 California. … hooray we beat California!!!

The broadest measure of unemployment -- which includes people who are only looking for work sporadically, who have given up looking, or who are working part time because they can't find a full-time job -- averaged 16.5 percent in Mississippi over the 12 months ended Sept. 30.

Almost as many Mississippians said they had a job in October as in January 2008, the high-water mark for pre-recession employment. But the number of people looking for jobs in the state began growing in late 2009 and is 4.5 percent greater than before the recession began. That compares to almost no growth in the national labor force.

Republicans controlled the administrative sector of government and Democrats controlled the legislative sector. Apparently neither one of them could come up with a “win”.

Maybe its time to listen to “purity” Conservatives, religious people, small government people?

Obviously a case of alien abduction. Please bring back the Brett.

That was a tough week.

Here's a little food for thought. The Republican Party says we don't need the " Nanny" State, and I agree.

What's puzzling is why the Reps passed legislation, preventing people from buying compettitvely priced Prescription Meds from Canada. Forcing millions of Americans to pay higher prices from domestic sources who were legilatively protected from free market competition.

Here's why the Republican party is failing. we can't hear what they're saying because of what they're doing.

Somebody Respond to this and tell me where I'm wrong.

Conservatism per Merriam Webster:

"a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change; specifically : such a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs (as retirement income or health-care coverage) "

Romney at least lacks the last item - a belief in personal responsibility for personal needs as he believes that government running health care and retirement programs (Romneycare) is a valid government function.

Winning a primary does not make you any more a conservative than saying your a Christian because you go to church every Sunday - your walk has to match your talk.

To be honest I haven't selected a candidate at this point. I like a little of all of them, and will be happy to vote for any who win the Republican nomination. I'm with Haley when he says that purity is the enemy of victory. l hate the negative campaigning, and that alone makes me want to vote for Santorum just because he seems to be doing less of it than the others. However, I don't think he'll be in the race by the time Mississippi votes.
Hill Billy Willy - I have no idea what your point is cause you are all over the place. But you go ahead and hold something against Newt that Jesus has already forgiven and forgotten.

George - I liked your post and I read the article on Circular Firing Squad - good piece and must say I have to agree with it. Tired of the (can't call it what it is cause Brett won't post my note) negative _____.

Ron brought up a very good point why is the Republican Party apparently ignoring the fact that its conservative base is walking out the door? Could it be perhaps the politicians on this list think - we got your money, support and vote - now we don't need anything more from our conservative base they need to just hush up and let us run things?

Maybe Nosef the new one at the state Repub Helm will be able to fix this - trying to figure out why no one is beating the door down to join the State Republican Party.

Bill - I dont have a problem if your candidate is Mitt - I relish discussion on the issues with you - and I really respect you for voicing your support - but elected officials should take the road Rubio did - stay out of the endorsement game and LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE. Voters should decide who our nominee is - not politicians.

Do you know I, and many other Christians didn't vote for Mcain. Because we were insulted by his claims to be a christian, and his pandering for our vote, while at the same time he and his wife were drug (alcohol) dealers.

While all this argument about who is or isn't a christian. The answer is simple. Either you live it or you don't.

The only time ( according to the Bible ) that Christ expressed anger, was when he Threw the moneychangers out of the temple.
