A Few Election Updates This Evening

June 2, 2009

Real time updates below:

10:20 p.m.: Independent Carolyn McAdams defeated incumbent Democrat Sheriel Perkins in the Greenwood mayoral race. Within the past week, Perkins has hosted rallies with Rep. Bennie Thompson, but obviously that did not help her as she lost 57-43.

10:10 p.m.: Tonight’s hard-luck loser has to be Blue Springs Mayor Judy Harrison whose re-election bid came up just 11 votes short. Of course when you lose by 11 votes in Blue Springs, you lose by about 20 points. David Boland, the winner, received 30 votes.

Also, it is now official from Flowood- the liquor initiative passes by a 3-1 margin.

9:55 p.m.: With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Republican Cheri Barry has about a 100 vote lead over Democrat Percy Bland for the mayoral post in Meridian (out of nearly 9,000 votes).

9:45 p.m.: 100 percent of the precincts are now in from Pearl, with Rogers winning by an 86-14 margin. No new updates from Flowood, but it looks like wine and liquor sales will soon be legal in restaurants within the city.

9:40 p.m.: On the coast, Republican George Schloegel has a solid lead over Democrat Clyde Williams, while Republican A.J. Holloway has been declared the winner over Democrat Jesse H. Kennedy Jr. in Biloxi.

9:05 p.m.: A couple of NE Mississippi mayoral updates: Democrat George “Pat” Patterson (apparently riding the coattails of the state’s top football recruit with the same name who is heading to Ole Miss next year) easily wins the open race in Oxford over Republican Ken McCullough. In Tupelo, Republican Jack Reed Jr. handily defeats Democrat Doyce Deas.

8:55 p.m.: Rogers lead is now at 74-26 with 50 percent of precincts in.

The Flowood liquor initiative now has support of 79 percent of voters with half the precincts reported.

8:45 p.m.: Republican Brad Rogers is leading Democrat Don Jackson for the Pearl mayoral position by an 80-20 margin with 25 percent of precincts in.

The Flowood liquor sales initiative has supporters leading 76-24 with 25 percent of precincts in.pdates belo
