Talks of a possible strike have made headlines recently, but Hinds County First Student bus drivers now say that they will walk out tomorrow morning at 4 a.m. Willie Smith, president of Teamsters Local 891, sent out this press release. The union is only striking in Hinds County with the union placing the blame on Hinds County Superintendent Stephen Handley. Handley argues that the dispute is between First Student and the union and issued this press release earlier this morning. The school district is also posting updates at this website and they are working with First Student to continue to provide transportation even with the strike in place.

I hope the bus drivers realize they will receive no pay other than the union stipend and can lose their jobs to replacement workers.

Here is my previous coverage of the strike.

I hope none of the bus drivers have children in the public schools. This is yet another example of a union engaged in a government job putting their personal interest above the good of all.

Let the kids walk to school, we did if we lived in town or less than a mile from school. Let parent’s, teachers and administrators make arrangements to get those living further than a mile to school.

This is how it was done before government begin being a ‘nanny’ to us.

I think the bus drivers are just drinking the union kool-aid. They buy whatever the union is feeding them and it can come back to bite them big time. Unions wonder why the population has a skeptical viewof them- this is why.
