What’s In A Donation?

Thanks to some good digging by The Real McGlowan, we learned that First District candidate Angela McGlowan made a $500 campaign donation to Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA), a very liberal Congressman from Los Angeles, in 2005.

When you look at McGlowan’s campaign donations through the years, this was sticks out like a sore thumb. Other donations were made to former Virginia Sen. George Allen, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Federal Victory Fund (a Republican PAC). Certainly there would be nothing offensive to GOP voters in those instances, but the Becerra donation just seems real strange to me. I will give McGlowan the benefit of the doubt and assume there was something else behind this.

As for the two other GOP candidates in the race, there is nothing you wouldn’t expect in their history of making campaign donations. Henry Ross has made donations exclusively to Republican candidates/ causes including Trent Lott, George W. Bush, former state Senator Charlie Ross, Roger Wicker, Haley Barbour, and the Mississippi and Tennessee GOP. Alan Nunnelee has made a few donations to Roger Wicker.

Campaign donations from before a person was even thinking about running for elected office can be very tricky and possibly problematic for a candidate. However, I don’t think I remember this single handily bringing a candidate down. Still, with the emergence of the Gallo video last week and this revelation today, it may make more then a few people wonder.

But as I said, I want to find out if there is something else behind McGlowan’s reasoning for donating to Becerra because it is such a strange- and random- donation.

She might be able to spin this to make it presentable but that should be stike two to ANY true conservative.
No matter what comes of this her damage control team must be on overtime already. This could be her platform for new jobs ” I will hire all of Mississippi to clean up my messes and to help hide my skeletons”.
It is certainly starting to look like it would take all of Mississippi to do that job.

You know as long as the information can be corroborated I, for one, do not care who is behind the site. We just need to be sure and research the information from that site like we would information from any other source. Fact check it and follow up with anything new you may find. I personally consider the McGlowan site and the Nunnelee site as tools to help direct me where to look for further information. These sites serve a purpose as long as we keep them in perspective. There are always two sides to the story we must do the research and figure out the side we believe.
