Over the last two days, this blog caused the ire of many in what Robert so eloquently called the Gay Army.
I promised not write about the story anymore, but just looked at some data on where the comments came from and thought that might be of interest to you.
Those who, like the blog, supported the school’s decision to cancel the prom rather then bend for the ACLU, were overwhelmingly regulars to the blog and from Mississippi (I am including IP addresses from Shelby county, TN as Mississippi for argument’s sake). Some 95 percent of supporters were from the Magnolia State with a couple new people from Indiana and Virginia supporting the school.
The only person with an IP address from Fulton was, in fact, supportive of the school’s decision. Not a consensus by any means, but interesting.
The people who disagreed with the school and the blog were 100 percent from out of state and about 95 percent were new to the blog (and those who are regulars tended to make more of a libertarian argument rather than a social justice, discrimination case for the girl). The following states were represented by supporters: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Of course, you can go to the Jackson Free Press and find supporters living in Mississippi, but just wanted to point that out here.
Here are three of the most popular words/ phrases used by supporters of the girl:
– Supporters of the school are bigots
– Supporters of the school do not use proper grammar/ are uneducated
– This is the new civil rights movement
Its been fun, I imagine most of the new people here were just here for a ‘hit-and-run.’ Leave there comments and never be back. I will be closing all comments to these stories at the end of the day.
