House Democrat To Switch Parties on Monday

The state Republican Party sent out a media advisory today announcing that a House Democrat will formally switch parties on Monday as part of a press conference with Haley Barbour and Chairman Brad White. This will give Republicans 50 members in the House- their highest total since Reconstruction. Also of note, this is the 10th Democratic official in Mississippi to change parties since Barack Obama’s inauguration in January, 2009.

Any guesses on who the legislator is?

Note: I originally said ‘their highest total ever’ when talking about the 50 Republicans. A reader reminded me that Republicans had a higher total during Reconstruction and a Republican served as Speaker from 1872-1876. I have corrected my story to say ‘highest total since Reconstruction.’
