New Info On Nunnelee Attacks: Is the SEIU Behind It?
The Alan Nunnelee camp sent out a second email today referencing the phone calls and mail pieces that have been attacking the state Senator and Congressional candidate. “The Nunnelee Campaign for Congress has been advised of a sinister liberal campaign to influence the Republican primary by attacking the most formidable candidate in the field,” the second email said.
They also stated that the address on the mailing matches that of Citizens for Strength and Security (here is their website). Here is information on the PAC from Open Secrets. They received about $800k from the SEIU this election cycle. Most of their major contributors includes large labor groups such as CWA, Teamsters, and UFCW (in addition to SEIU).
The fact that they are targeting Nunnelee at this point (the primary vs. the general election) is very interesting. The Nunnelee camp obviously believes this is a cynical attempt by liberals to bring down the perceived front-runner or just cause all around chaos in the primary.
Nunnelee’s campaign took the occasion to attack Rep. Travis Childers and labor unions: “The congressman’s apparent partnership with left-wing labor unions reflects just how out-of-touch he is with middle-class families and seniors of North Mississippi. We are calling on Travis Childers to denounce the dirty tricks perpetrated by the D.C. liberals who support him. If he refuses to do so, it would only further cement the perception around here that he’s gone Washington after just two years in office.”
