Gene Taylor made headlines this weekend when he became the latest vulnerable Democrat to say he would rather not vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. According to an article in The Hill, Taylor said he would prefer Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) be the next Speaker.

Skelton is a long-serving Democrat from rural Missouri who has held on to his largely conservative district, much like Taylor, by bucking his party when necessary. Skelton opposed the healthcare reform legislation earlier this year.

The problem with Skelton is that their is a chance he won’t be around come January. While holding on to his red district for more than three decades, he is clearly in the fight for his life and is probably more endangered than Taylor.

Taylor called Skelton an “ideal” candidate who would be much more in tune with his beliefs than the current leadership.

When asked directly about if he would definitely vote against Pelosi, Taylor did not give a definitive no. According to a Sun Herald article that ran yesterday, Taylor did say he would not vote for Pelosi again.

In the past two weeks, Taylor has come out in support of healthcare repeal and more-or-less against Pelosi. Those questions should now turn to Travis Childers in the First.
