Nov. 2 Election Night Live Blog

November 2, 2010

10:30: The AP has made it official. Palazzo is the winner.

10:30: I have been told Gene Taylor has conceded. Steven Palazzo will be the next Congressman from MS-04.

10:25: Palazzo maintains a five point lead with 95% in. Imagine this race will be called for the Republican shortly.

10:18: Palazzo has expanded his lead to 52-46 (almost a 10,000 vote advantage) with 92 percent in.

10:10: We’re basically waiting on Jackson, Pearl River and Perry counties for precincts. Palazzo is very strong in Pearl River, marginally strong in Jackson and we have nothing from Perry yet.

10:05: We got some new numbers from MS-04. Palazzo is now up 52-47 with 89% in.

10:00: We have just one race in Mississippi outstanding and the last precincts are coming in VERY slowly. Palazzo is up about 3,700 votes with 86% in.

9:50: In MS-04, we have several counties with one or two precincts outstanding and Perry which hasn’t reported anything yet.

9:45: Getting to crunch time in MS-04; Palazzo now up 50-48 with 84% in.

9:38: With about 76% of the vote in, Palazzo clinging to a 1,300 vote lead in MS-04 out of some 133,00 votes so far.

9:33: The AP has called MS-01 for Alan Nunnelee.

9:25: More than half of Prentiss is in and Childers only leads 56-42. This is Childers home base and he won 78-21 in 2008.

9:15: Palazzo has taken and expanded a lead with 55% in. Now up 52-47 (about 4,500 votes).

9:05: Now approaching half the precincts reporting in MS-01 with Nunnelee up 55-42. In MS-04, Taylor leads by about 1,300 votes (51-48) with 46% in.

9:00: Nunnelee’s lead has dropped to 54-44 with 34% in. Taylor now leads by just 200 votes in MS-04 with 39% in.

8:55: Our first box from Prentiss (Childers’ home base) is in. Nunnelee now leads 56-41 with about 32% in.

8:50: With 33% in, Taylor leads Palazzo 51-48. It looks like this is going to be the close race in Mississippi this evening.

8:45: About a tenth of Desoto is in with Nunnelee up 64-30 (a little lower than I would like for Nunnelee but probably doesn’t matter). More than half of Lee is in and Nunnelee is up 64-34.

8:40: Gregg Harper has been declared the winner in MS-03.

8:35: With nearly 30% of precincts in from MS-03, Joel Gill is holding strong (down 55-44) although Rankin is still outstanding.

8:32: With more than half of Union county in, Nunnelee leads 64-33. Childers won 58-41 in 2008.

8:30: We have about 14% from MS-01 in with Nunnelee leading 57-41. With 11% in from MS-04, Palazzo has taken a 50-49 lead.

8:23: Bennie Thompson has been declared the winner in MS-02. Leads Bill Marcy about 2-1.

8:20: With nearly 5% in from MS-04, Steven Palazzo has closed the gap some; trails Taylor 52-47.

8:20: Although it’s early, Nunnelee is leading in every county but Lowndes. Remember, Childers won every county in 2008 except Desoto, Tate and Webster.

8:12: With 4% in, Nunnelee leads by a 2-1 margin (2423 to 1205). Very early numbers from MS-04 have Gene Taylor up 968-604.

8:05: Lee county reports are starting to come in. Have 5 of 42 in with Nunnelee up 2-1.

8:00: An early trend in MS-01? With about 12% of Alcorn in, Nunnelee up 69-28. In 2008, Childers won the county 58-41.

7:50: We have our first box in from MS-01. Doesn’t tell us much but Nunnelee over Travis Childers 574-247 real early.

7:40: We still don’t have any results but the night is going pretty good for the GOP in other states. In case you are wondering, many of the states where they are making quick calls had exit polling. They did not in Mississippi.

7:00: And the polls have closed; numbers as we get them.

6:50: About 10 minutes until polls close. General word is high report throughout; specifically in Desoto and Lee- two counties Alan Nunnelee wants and needs a big showing.

6:10: Still have a little less than an hour until polls close. No results yet but we’re starting early. I’m going to be posting here and Twitter so stay close by.

Turnout is huge in Lee County. They ran out of electronic ballots and voters had to vote by hand on copies. The delays could hurt the Nunnelee results since this is his home county. Hopefully all the good conservatives of Lee County did not let the delay effect them and stayed to vote.
