Here is a handy map showing the difference in how the various MS-01 counties voted between 2008 and 2010. The map on the left is how they voted in the Travis Childers-Greg Davis matchup from (November) 2008. Tuesday’s results are on the right side. A total of 14 counties flipped from Childers to Alan Nunnelee; none flipped to Childers.

Counties carried by a Democrat are in blue; those carried by a Republican are in red.

With Panola County going Democratic, will that be an influence to move Panola to District 02 in the redistricting?

Panola has a pretty good size black population so that would make sense. Also you could argue its potentially more aligned with the Delta than other parts of the 1st district. But it’s going to take more than Panola to make up for the lost pop. in MS02. With the Dems losing in MS01 and MS04, I don’t think redistricting on the Congressional level will be an issue anymore.

I think this is a good illustration of why we are going to see some local officials, maybe state legislatures, from NEMS switch parties before 2011. Itawamba, Tish, Alcorn, etc- they are all as Blue Dog as it gets and then voted against Childers in a big way.

The only thing the liberal media understands is when the color of the map makes such a change. Change we can believe in?
