Twenty-Three Counties Flipped In 2010

Below are a new set of county maps I wanted to publish. My previous individual maps show the county-by-county breakdown in the First and Fourth, but for this set I look at the two competitive districts together.

First, here is the 2008 map from MS-01 and MS-04. The Fourth is entirely Democratic (Gene Taylor won all 15 counties). In the First, Travis Childers won 20 of 23 counties (I am not counting Winston because it is just one precinct).

And here are the maps from Tuesday. Obviously, a lot more red. Alan Nunnelee won 17 counties (versus six for Travis Childers), while Steven Palazzo won nine of 15. All totaled, Republican went from losing 35 of the 38 counties that make up the two districts to winning 26 of them. Quick math will tell you that 23 counties (more than half) changed from supporting a Democrat in 2008 to supporting a Republican in 2010. Obviously none flipped the other way.

Once again, Democratic counties are blue while Republican counties are red.

There is much to learn from these maps.

    1. The 2008 map is a lesson for the republicans. Big spending, Big corporations, & Big government is not what the people want.

    2. The 2010 map is a lesson for the democrates. Big bailouts, Big government, and Big corporations is not what the people want.

If the lessons are not learned then:

    3. The 2012 map will be full of Independents. I wonder which color they will use for that map.
