The Republican Party and GOP leaders will hold a press conference tomorrow announcing the switch of three Democratic officials to the GOP side. According to the release, this includes “Democratic state Legislators and local Democratic elected officials.” Let the guessing games begin..

Here is the text of the release: “Governor Haley Barbour and Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Brad White will welcome Democratic state Legislators and local Democratic elected officials to the Republican Party at a press conference on Tuesday, December 28, at the MSGOP headquarters in Jackson. The elected officials will announce their switch from the Democratic to the Republican Party. This will be the 15th, 16th and 17th elected Mississippi Democratic officials who have switched to the GOP since the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.”

should we still laugh at this,or just shrug our shoulders and say its to be expected.
time will tell how loyal they will all be to their new party and a set of ethics new to most of them.

Is Jamie Franks preparing a new statement of just reusing the same one they have on disposal?

It involves his ex-wife and the Lee county school superintendant who had an affair. Franks tried to get the Lee county Democratic Party to basically kick Mike Scott out of office. There’s been lawsuits and countersuits and I believe this is occupying most of Franks’ time these days.

Greg, thats the problem with some of these that are switching to the GOP lately. Those four state reps in Alabama who switched last month still voted with the democrats on some of the amendments that were considered during a special session on ethics legislation a few weeks ago. One of them a few years ago was even indicted with a democrat state senator on corruption charges. It makes you wonder why their really switching. My advice for the Mississippi GOP would be to build from the ground up kind of like what their doing with the Corinth city council and what the GOP did in Tennessee. In western Tennessee for example which used to be hardcore yellow dog democrat country. There are now three counties where there are no longer any democrats serving in county offices. In Shelby County/Memphis last year the GOP won the Shelby County Sheriffs and Mayor’s races. Shelby is a county that went huge for Obama in ’08. Sure the party switchers are nice but its not the way to build a lasting majority.
