Mark DuVall’s Interesting Vote On HB 195

February 18, 2011

A little over a week ago the state House passed legislation that would “create offense for lewd and lascivious acts or obscene electronic communication regarding minors under 16.” You can read the entire bill here, and it obviously goes into pretty explicit details on what the bill is meant to outlaw. I imagine it wasn’t much fun writing this.

The final vote, as you would imagine, was unanimous (113-0) in support of it. However, on the original roll call Rep. Mark DuVall voted against the bill before switching his final vote, making him the only person to originally oppose it. You can check out that roll call here which produced a 110-1 vote.

In this case, let’s hope he hadn’t read the bill.

DuVall has had quite the session so far. First the restoration of Dixie and Colonel Reb at Ole Miss and now this.

Yea he’s making a name for himself alright. Can’t find anyone to run against him though last I heard.

Dennis Farris is rumored to be a challenger. Unsure of his background/formal intent
