Statement From Arnie Hederman

The Mississippi Republican Party sent out another release this morning, this time with a message from GOP Chair Arnie Hederman:

“The liberal Democrats in the Mississippi House released their redistricting proposal yesterday, an unfair plan that happens to severely limit our ability to elect a Republican Speaker in 2012.

What’s more is the Democrats are giving less than twenty-four hours for legislators to review the plan before voting on it. Can you imagine? Less than twenty-four hours to review a plan that will change the shape of our state government for the next ten years.

But it’s not too late, and that’s why I’m writing you this morning. We need our grassroots leaders to stand up this morning and call talk radio, reach out directly to legislators, and make every effort possible to encourage House Republicans to stick together and oppose this unfair plan.

Nothing less than the future of our state is at stake.

Today’s redistricting vote is scheduled for 12:00 PM noon, so time is of the essence. Call your legislators, call talk radio, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. Let’s stop this unfair plan and give our legislators the time they need to put together a fair plan that will do right by Mississippi for the next decade.”

“an unfair plan that happens to severely limit our ability to elect a Republican Speaker in 2012.”

I couldn’t agree more – only plans which demand the election of a gop speaker are fair.
