Big mistake. The Host Committee is loaded with Drs. and their wives….a sure way to convince the community that Dennis is an elitist and not out for the common man. Wrong in everyway. And one never, ever releases the list of contributors(see Hosts) before the event….another sure fire way to polarize the community and divide up the existing money pot during a primary. Oh, no doubt they will raise money but in the process lose a large segment of the voters of Hattiesburg. The disaster of such an event will never come to light until after the primary is over…..Obviously there aren’t any real smart people running this campaign or else Dennis is not taking their advice!

Catty, would your analysis also apply to Lucien Smith in the Treasurer’s race?

Catty, all politicians release host lists prior to events.

Where did you get your campaign knowledge?

I’m not saying you are right or wrong, but every politician in the state is going against your advice.

Long years of political training; including working in an “executive position” on a senatorial staff in D. C. ; consultant to the White House on communications, etc. since you asked. But all I need to is refer to a most recent race on the Gulf Coast whereby the list of donors at a fund raiser was released by the candidate( unadvisedly) and the uproar brought down the candidate whereas before he was the front runner. We are lagging in MS in understanding that we are in a different era these days; one does not tout the candidate’s affiliation with the wealthy members of the community but instead reserves that information for the campaign finance filing requirement, which fortunately lags sufficiently in time past the election/and or primary. It is something the Democrats learned way, way before the GOP.

    Interesting. Thanks for the explaining.
