Moak Confirms He Is Running For Speaker

Rep. Bobby Moak (D-Bogue Chitto) told the Commercial Appeal yesterday that he plans to run for Speaker of the House after the new legislature is sworn in in January. This wasn’t a surprise or any type of secret. The question that looms is, is he the consensus choice among the Democratic caucus?

Right now, Moak is unopposed for re-election and he is sitting on a pile of cash that he can distribute to legislators over the next several months.

It is good to see another Liberal Democrat is going to run. Mr. McCoy decides not to
and he is replaced by another Liberal. I am sure the Black Caucus is happy.

I read the article. The average citizen reading this is given the impresssion that Moak is a moderate Democrat who will work for concensus and will be admired and trusted by all in the House. HA! Moak is a trial lawyer first and foremost. He is a liberal who is hostile to virtually everything the conservatives want to get through the House. If you want four more years of McCoy with a different voice then go with Moak.

Why would anyone think the legislature would elect another Liberal. Every single republican voted as a block for Jeff Smith last time. There is little reason to think there would be a change this time for someone at least as liberal as McCoy.

Republicans are going to have more gains. 8 democrats have retired and for Moak to win he would have to get virtually all the Democratic votes or pick up some Republican votes. How can this every happen. The future of Mississippi as far as the House of Representatives is with a Conservative, whatever his party affiliation, and certainly Moak can be called a lot of things but “Conservative” is not one.

Please see the posts about Bobby Moak living outside his district posted on the “Jeff Smith Qualifies as An Independent” page.

I can not say much about where Bobby Moak lives, so folks, it would be sour grapes for me to try and belittle Bobby. I am no longer a Democrat, so anything dealing with D’s is out of my perview.

I got my creditials challenged in 2007 by the Democratic executive committee , because I voted for George Bush, lol. One good thing about being an Independent, you only have to answer to your voters and constituents and no party.
