DuPree To Get $90K From DGA
In a profile in National Journal, Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Johnny DuPree said that he recently met with the Democratic Governors Association and the organization has pledged $90,000 to his cause. Cash is obviously going to be a major factor in the race, and DuPree is saying he needs to raise about $2 million for the general election and would like to go on the air in high frequency three weeks before the election.
There are a total of four governor’s races this year; most occur in the 2006, 2010, 2014, etc. election cycles. The races in Louisiana and Kentucky aren’t competitive with incumbents expected to win easily, so I don’t imagine much money will be invested in those states. Mississippi stands to be the most competitive of those three in all honesty. But in October, there is a special election in West Virginia to fill the remainder of now-Sen. Joe Manchin’s term. Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D) is expected to win, but there has been talk that this race is narrowing with just a couple weeks to go. But this has a good chance of being the most competitive of the four.
