Taylor on DHS “Right Wing Extremist” Report
Janet Napolitano, who did such an awful job at combating illegal immigration in her home state of Arizona that she was rewarded by Obama with a top national security post in his administration, has probably received more heat then any other member of his cabinet during the president’s first 100 days.
The problems began for Napolitano not too long ago when the Department of Homeland Security sent out a memo warning of “right-wing extremists.” This group included those who may oppose abortion, may oppose illegal immigration, or may be returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
First, Mississippi’s most liberal Democrat, Bennie Thompson, was critical of the memo.
And now the state’s most conservative Democrat, Gene Taylor, has joined in the critique of the warning.
“The president would not listen if I said it,” Taylor said of calls for her resignation, adding that the assessment of veterans in the report “was just a dumb thing to say. It certainly calls for an apology on her part- and even better, an apology and a clarification.”
“All these Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, they know where to look for an IED, they know what kind of mannerisms a terrorist suspect is going to have, so they’re tremendous assets, and I’m sorry that she missed that.”
For me, it is troubling that this administration is more worried about war veterans or pro-lifers than they are of Islamic extremist who have said their mission is to kill Americans.
