The Poll Showing MS-02 A Toss-Up…
Paul Gallo’s daily newsletter had another interesting nugget yesterday, where he teased that there is a poll showing the Second District race between Rep. Bennie Thompson and his Republican challenger Bill Marcy a ‘toss-up.’
I have seen a poll conducted by a Louisiana firm, JMC Enterprises, that have Thompson a statistically insignificant 35-34 lead over Marcy, with 31 percent undecided.
The poll was done of 441 people, and also said 32 percent of the respondents were satisfied with Thompson versus 38 percent who were not. I imagine this is the poll Gallo was mentioning. Polling was conducted Sept. 11-17, but we do not have crosstabs to see a racial breakdown of the respondents or what kind of screening model was used.
Here is JMC’s website, and here is a link to their Facebook page.
Republicans turning out for Palazzo. We mentioned the large fundraiser Haley Barbour had for Steven Palazzo a couple weeks ago, but he is certainly not the only Republican making a push to unseat Gene Taylor in the Fourth.
Over the last week, Phil Bryant has spoken at a reception in Hattiesburg for Palazzo and last night it was Stacey Pickering in Laurel.
A positive spot from Taylor… I mentioned in the post earlier today that Gene Taylor has three campaign spots out, and showed the one targeting Palazzo and eminent domain. Well, here is a positive piece titled ‘Where I Stand’ with Taylor reciting several positions he holds on key issues. You can check it out below the fold.
I would also like to know whether there were partisan identifiers in the question. Was Thompson identified as the Democrat and Marcy identified as the Republican (like they will be on the ballot)?
Bill Marcy has a good chance to win. The republicans need to support him whole heartly.
