That Race Thing

It is absolutely no shock to me that the issue of race and Johnny DuPree not being elected Governor has already been pushed to the forefront of the upcoming election.  It is a built-in excuse and nothing more.  How much validity is there to the argument anyway?  Sure there are still people in our state that are racist, both white and black if we want to be honest with ourselves, but their impact would be extremely minimal in any election.  People who vote Republican normally are going to vote Republican no matter skin color.  For most people, believe it or not, the issues matter and right now Republicans own that amongst voters in this state.  So the real question that everybody should be asking is what normal Democratic voter is going to the poll in November and not going to vote for someone based on their skin color.

New Jobs Always Welcomed

In tough economic times new job creation is always a scarce and welcomed site.  Governor Haley Barbour has called Legislators back to Jackson for a special session to pass along some incentives to two companies looking to invest in Mississippi and create 1800 well-paying jobs.  Party politics can be tossed aside for negotiations like this because everybody can agree that bringing in new jobs is a benefit to the state and especially to the areas where the jobs will be located.  Sure the state may be forking over $175 million in incentives, but when you look at what the companies are willing to put into it out of their own pockets then it just makes sense.

That Time of Year

It is finally that time, once again, in Mississippi for the start of the college football season.  Much like going to church on Sundays here in Mississippi we are just as committed to either attending or sitting down to watch our favorite teams in action on Saturdays.  There is nothing quite like it.  Brett and I for a couple of years now have done a weekly pick’em contest amongst ourselves, but you are welcome to join in on the fun by submitting your picks in the comment section.  We also have a weekly schedule and with TV listings for those games that are being broadcast of all the local Mississippi teams.  This time of year is exciting for many around these parts so good luck to you and your favorite team this year and have a safe and wonderful time rooting on your school.

Robert, the real question is what is a normal Democrat voter?

What are you thinking?
